Shaping Bright Futures

Whether you want to be a DJ, a fireman, a hairdresser, an engineer,  a chartered accountant or a pilot in the RAF, there was something for everyone at the careers fair this week!

The Careers Fair at the Academy was a huge smash with many of the employers and training providers commenting that they felt the fair was one of the best organised they had been to. Students were directed to ask questions and responded so well to the tasks provided. Primary Teachers were delighted with the activities provided for them to do back at school to the needs of the careers primary curriculum.

Two Year 12 students were lucky to secure a work placement with Astra Zeneca.  Jordan Van Eker was enthused after meeting his mentor at the fair today who told him

“It’s rare for a student to get a work experience with them as they only offer 10 per year so well done.”

Natalia Szumiec with an interest in Architecture joined forces with Josh from the Architectural Company names Austin-Smith: Lord who took the time to sit with Natalia to give her the real perspective and the expert information. Natalia was delighted that this had been arranged and the Josh and Allan who is a Director of the company have said not only will they take Natalia on work experience but they can support in understanding that she was not born in the UK as wasn’t Josh and they would be delighted to have her come and learn with them.

12 year 12 students attended a talk on getting into competitive courses with Leeds University which was particularly helpful as some of those are looking at Russell Group Universities.

Steph from Oxford University said she would love to liaise with us to arrange for students to visit Oxford. Students as young as Year 7 spent valuable time and were so enthused for this opportunity.

A huge thank you to all the employers who gave up their time to support the school.

Two members from Astra Zeneca were off shift supported the event in their own time which demonstrates how passionate they both are about supporting the next generation.
